The first project out of the new shop is a Chainsaw Chest for my four-wheeler. The corners are dovetailed. The lid is glued, nailed and screwed. The bottom is glued, nailed, and screwed. Yes, I broke woodworking rules with expansion and contraction, but no, it’s not going to be an issue. Because I didn’t allow room for contraction as the wood dries, the bottom will (already has) crack. In a piece of furniture, I wouldn’t have done this. But in a utility box that is going to get beat up on my four-wheeler, cracks do not matter. There are enough nails and screws in the bottom for it to hold up just fine.
