Another “my biggest tree yet” event. This time, a 32″ hickory in the beginning stages of dying. The tree had a hard lean and, luckily, had no obstacles to avoid. My friend Mr. Jack said this tree was starting to shed dangerously large limbs, to the point where he didn’t like walking underneath it.

We took the tree down, and I salvaged three logs out of the trunk. I passed on the opportunity to take as much of the top as I wanted for firewood, but I’ve simply got an abundance as it is. Nobody locally, other than me, apparently, wants to spend time getting free firewood. Everyone would rather pay $200-$300 per cord to buy split firewood. So a lot of usable firewood got pushed down the hill to rot or burn later.
